Recycling Tips
We are sustainably conscious and environmentally responsible, that’s why in this section, we provide recycling tips and what items are recyclable. We not only conduct business locally, we live here. Which is why we’ve built our own recycling and recovery facility to help the cause of saving our land, rather than filling landfills. We started recycling even before it was a law, because it means that much to us.

Help Save the Bees.
Shakespeare once wrote of the Autumn season, “That time of year thou may’st in me bee-hold”. The fall marks a time when bees production begins to slow and bees struggle to fulfill their purpose. The simple truth is, if bees don’t work, they die. Consider purchasing more organic honey products through the fall and winter months. The more we buy the products of bees, the more bees there are! Check out your local fall arts and craft fairs and purchase from local bee keepers.
Men’s Suits and Clothing.
Donate your son’s and husband’s old suits and clothing to Career Gear rather than filling a landfill. Career Gear offers unemployed men interview clothing and career counseling. Go to https://careergear.henof.com to learn more. Or donate to your local clothing charity of choice.
Don’t throw those mismatched socks away!
Here are a few ideas to keep them out of a landfill.
1. Pair them with another mismatched sock
2. Use them under furniture legs when moving to prevent scratched floors
3. Fill with uncooked rice and knot the other end. Heat in 20 second increments in the microwave & you’ve got an instant heating pad for those with sore musclesWhat Metal Items are Not Recyclable?
Some metal items not recyclable include foil tops from food containers (e.g. Yogurt), paint cans, and any small pieces of scrap metal that clog the recycling machinery. Also, can tops cut with a can opener as they are dangerous to the recycling facility workers. However, clean aluminum foil, cans, metal lids, and pots and pans that aren’t non-stick are recyclable.
Have you considered growing a garden?
An organic fruit and vegetable garden can be part of your sustainable climate action. A garden preserves green space, reduces waste, and means fewer trips to the store, all reducing your carbon footprint. Plus there is nothing like the flavor of home-grown produce.
Putting drinking glasses, cups or dishware in the recycling bin.
…can cause many issues for the processors and glass manufacturers, include destroying their equipment and causing the good glass jars and bottles to be unusable. If you have dishware and drinking glasses that are intact. please bring them to your local Goodwill or local reuse
shop. If they are broken, put them in your regular trash.Recycle all clean paper and all flattened cardboard boxes.
If you have time, please remove all tape and all plastic wrap that might be attached to the cardboard. The cardboard recycling processors will greatly appreciate it.
Donate Your Running Shoes.
Rather than trashing them, donate ‘nearly new’ athletic shoes to https://www.oneworldrunning.com/. One World Running promotes health in both the U.S. and Internationally, and send new or ‘nearly new’ athletic shoes to American shelters as well as Africa, Central America, and Haiti.
If your shoes are ‘well worn’, they’ll be recycled into material for tracks and playgrounds.Help Save Our Bees!
Bees are an important part of helping to save our environment. As we plant our gardens this summer, keep these few things in mind to do your part.
1. Don’t use pesticides.
2. Consider organic fertilizer, or use your lawn clippings instead of chemicals as fertilizer.
3. Plant native species to the area – they will attract beneficial insects and also get rid of pests at the same time.
4. For more suggestions go to https://www.pollinator-pathway.org/Pizza Boxes
Oil and food make cardboard and paper unrecyclable, so pizza boxes with grease and/or food on them aren’t fit for the recycling bin. However if the box is clean, you can recycle it.
Substitute Cloth for Paper
Consider cloth napkins and cloth towels for everyday use rather than paper napkins and paper towels that aren’t recyclable. They’re reusable, last a long time and cloth napkins make every meal feel like a special occasion.
What do I do with Storage Bags?
Storage bags are NOT recyclable. We recommend upcycling by using plastic containers or jars instead from empty products you’ve finished. If you do use storage bags, consider cleaning and reusing them. There are also reusable storage bags made out of various materials that are biodegradable or easier to clean like cloth.
